Raiden 3
Raiden III is a revival of the classic Raiden series of scrolling shooter games. It was developed by the Japanese company Moss with some assistance and license by Seibu Kaihatsu which produced Raiden and Raiden II, and published in Japan by Taito in 2005. It has also been published in the US by UFO Interactive Games, in Europe by 505 Games, and in China by Soft-World International Corporation.
After a franchise hiatus of over 11 years following the release of Raiden DX, set in a universe different from all previous games and updated with a new look and feel. Raiden III is the first to use a new Taito Type X arcade system developed by Taito, instead of conventional arcade systems. New concepts are introduced, which includes a "new 3D scrolling system" that involves the camera pointing down normal to the player while the scenery moves in three dimensions: climbing, descending, and sometimes moving vertically. The blue Laser concept is more like a beam, instead of the ones seen in prior installments.
Plot
Little is known about the game's storyline, other than the fact that Earth has been overrun by aliens.
Gameplay
Players once again take control of the famous Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter, red for player 1 and blue for player 2 as usual; there are no selectable ships. Two player mode is enhanced by an exclusive new attack: a beam that is usable whenever one player lines up in front of the other.
In Double play mode, both players share the live and bomb stocks, and without continue. In Playstation 2, both players can be played from the same controller.

Mushihimesama
Mushihime-sama is a manic shooter developed by Cave and released by Taito in 2004. It was ported to the PlayStation 2 in 2005. The game has an insect theme as all of the enemies resemble various insects such as beetles and butterflies. The game is set in various forest environments. The game is notorious for its extreme difficulty.
A limited Playstation 2 version also includes young Reco and Kiniro figures.
Game Modes
The PlayStation 2 port of Mushihime-sama features all three game modes from the arcade version, as well as a new 'arrange' mode, exclusive to the port.
Original - The easiest mode with fewer (but usually faster) bullets than the other difficulty settings.
Maniac - Features more bullets and a chaining system to drastically change scores.
Ultra - The most difficult mode, has an even higher bullet count than Maniac and retains the chaining system.
Arrange - It is a version added to Playstation 2 game. Seemingly a version of Maniac mode, only the player starts out with much more firepower but no continues. Also, if the player makes contact with a bullet or an enemy while holding at least one bomb, the player does not die and instead releases a bomb. The player can also cycle through all three weapon types by pressing a button.

Gigawing Generations
GigaWing Generations (also known as Yokushin: GigaWing Generations) is a 2004 vertically scrolling shooter arcade game developed by Takumi and published by Taito on their Taito Type X arcade system board. It was ported to the PlayStation 2 console in 2005.
Overview
GigaWing Generations is the third game in the series. This one has no characters to pilot the 4 selectable planes and no storyline. Each ship varies in ability more drastically than they do in previous Giga Wing games including flight speed and shot type. The player now selects which stage (out of two) to tackle first (in previous Giga Wings the plane choice affected the starting stage). It's also the first game in the series to use a vertically aligned monitor.
Gameplay
In 2-player mode, both player shares the same multiplier, which allows players to reach score levels otherwise impossible to achieve in single player mode.

Ibara
Ibara is a vertical scrolling shooter developed by Japanese developer Cave and published by Taito. Although interest among the hardcore audience is high, it has currently not been published outside of Japan due to the genre's dwindling popularity in North America and arcade gaming in general.
Gameplay
Ibara is very similar to 8ing/Raizing's Battle Garegga and Battle Bakraid games (in fact, Shinobu Yagawa, the programmer for the aforementioned games, worked on this game). So much so that Ibara could be considered a pseudo-sequel or, at least, spiritual successor. The similarites are numerous - some are subtle, some are easily spotted. These include combining archaic technology such as bi-planes with more advanced machinery; firing and power-up system; and a medal collecting system which drastically increases scoring. The game features a similar method of earning bombs and a delay when launching them as well. Some of the enemies and their attack patterns are very familiar such as the large cranes in stage 1 and the minigun-wielding first boss. The enemy's explosions spiral around when destroying some of the heavier weapons/scenery and thin, seemingly camouflaged enemy bullets are scattered around the play area in comparable patterns. More subtle references include the HUD layout which lists the name of the current stage at the top of the screen and, when starting a stage, tells users the title of the background music that is playing.
XII Stag
XII Stag (pronounced Twelve Stag), is a shoot 'em up arcade game developed by Triangle Service and published by Taito. It ran originally in Taito's G-NET arcade board, and was ported to the PlayStation 2 console.
Digital Bros published the port in Europe; however, the game was not released in the USA.

Striker
Strikers 1945 is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up arcade game released in 1995 by Japanese company Psikyo. Many fans consider it to be an homage to Capcom's classic shooter 1942. It was followed by two sequels, Strikers 1945 II in 1997 and Strikers 1945 III (also known as Strikers 1999 in Japan), as well as a version for SNK's Neo Geo called Strikers 1945 Plus (which is actually an alternate version of Strikers 1945 II).
Striker Gameplay
Each plane in Strikers 1945 has three attacks: A normal shot, a charged shot, and a bomb that clears the screen of minor enemies and bullets. Both the normal shot and the charged shot can be strengthened by grabbing power-ups and extra bombs can be collected. Gold bars, which are found by destroying certain buildings or enemies, can be collected for bonus points. After the defeat of the final boss, the player's time, number of gold bars, and number of enemies killed are added up for each level and, if high enough, marked with a silver or gold medal.
Striker 2
Strikers 1945 II is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up released in 1997 by Japanese company Psikyo. Mistakingly thought to be officially part of the 1942 video game series, it is considered to be more of a tribute to many fans. This game was also ported to the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
Striker 2 Story
Continuing where the last game ended, the forces of CANY had been demolished by the previous Strikers' line-up. However, a small group known as the FGR stole the sources and technology responsible for the last events and planned to continue CANYs work by initiating world-warfare with massive mech technology. Once again, the Strikers are called into action.

Love Trizeal
Trizeal is a Japanese shoot 'em up arcade game developed by Triangle Service, a small Japanese videogame development company. Running on Sega NAOMI hardware, the game was ported to the Sega Dreamcast in 2005, making it one of the few officially licensed games to be released for the system after it went out of production.
The Dreamcast version offers a score attack mode, a sound test mode and new stages that weren't in the arcade version. A PlayStation 2 version was released in January 20, 2006, and there is also a Microsoft Windows version.
Although this game is a Japan-only release it is quite "import-friendly" as there is some English displayed during game play.
The game was made by only three staff members and the console conversions were handled by only one person.
Gameplay~
Players control and can transform a spaceship into three forms, working through multiple levels and boss sequences. The game can be played in four different screen modes, with one mode mimicking the narrow arcade version. A ship from Triangle Service's previous release, XII Stag, is hidden in the game and can be unlocked by holding the "X" button before selecting a stage in Stage Attack mode.
There are 6 levels in the game, they get progressively harder until the last stage which consists of only two bosses. Two unlockable modes become available when the game is completed, they are Omake mode and Lifting mode. Omake mode is a short level which has denser bullet patterns than the normal game, lifting mode is where you have to juggle a stone on your ship to score points.

The game is set predominantly in outer space, where players assume control of a fictional spaceship called Vic Viper through a continuously scrolling background depicting the territories of Bacterian??an evil empire which serves as the player's enemy
Plot
Gradius V is set in an interstellar setting against the backdrop of a conflict between the human-inhabited planet Gradius and a self-regenerating entity called Bacterian??which in each iteration assembles a massive space armada in an effort to conquer the dominion.
The story opens in the year 8010 when a military space station orbiting planet Gradius is subdued by Bacterion forces. As part of a counter-offensive, Vic Viper of the Gradius army engages the assailants in space. With the help of a future-version of himself, Vic Viper fights hordes of Bacterion forces, ultimately obliterating the Bacterion core.

Neo Contra
Neo Contra is the tenth video game in the Contra series by Konami. It was released for the Sony PlayStation 2 in 2004. The game is a direct follow-up to Contra: Shattered Soldier and is another departure from the traditional scrolling shooter formula from previous games.
Plot
Neo Contra takes place during A.D. 4444 when the Earth has been transformed into a prison planet, home to criminals and political rebels (contras). From this underworld society rises a new order called "Neo Contra". This government quickly showed its true colors, as it has other plans than bringing back normal civilization. Carrying out this new threat are four renegade contra, who are called the Four Elite. Thus, Bill Rizer is partnered with Genbei "Jaguar" Yagyu, a samurai, and the two are sent to Earth to deal with the Neo Contra threat.
Gameplay
Neo Contra once again brings the games *CENSORED* back into three dimensions. However, unlike the titles developed under Appaloosa Interactive, players only need to aim in third dimension upon rare occasions. Additionally, this title eradicates the boss-oriented gameplay of the previous 32-bit titles, and seeks a balance more reminiscent of the 8-bit and 16-bit Contras; long free-form shooting sections, interspliced with boss encounters.
Additionally, gameplay varies depending upon the level and camera angle presented (the camera cannot be user-controlled). Most of the game is played in an isometric perspective, but portions are side-scrolling or overhead-behind. The player cannot jump. Instead, two new defensive moves are added that allows the player to effectively evade in the new dimensions: dash and spin. Dash gives the player a quick burst of speed to evade hostiles, while spin gives the player an instant of invulnerability. The hit-ratio system that was introduced in Shattered Soldier has been kept in this title.
The game uses a modified version of the three-weapon configuration from Shattered Soldier. The player has two types of firearms used against ground-level targets, one with regular ammo and the other with flammable rounds, and a third weapon used to lock-on airborne targets. The player can choose from one of the three initially available weapon sets (one which includes the famous Spread Shot from the earlier Contra games, which was missing in Shattered Soldier), with three additional sets that are time-release.
There are a total of seven stages in the game. Like Shattered Soldier, the four initial stages can played in any order and be replayed anytime for higher grading. The fifth stage can only be selected by clearing the first four stages, while the sixth and seventh stages are only available if players maintain an above average grade overall. There is a difficulty setting in the options menu, and playing on Easy difficulty grants players 30 lives to beat the first four missions, but on this difficulty it is impossible to view the game's ending. Normal mode offers players 5 lives and 7 continues to complete the seven missions of the game.

Gunstar Heroes is a run and gun video game developed by Treasure Co. Ltd and published by Sega. The game was released September 9, 1993 in North America and the following day in Japan for the Sega Mega Drive, with a release also following in Europe in the same year. A Game Gear version was released only in Japan in 1995. It was the best selling Mega Drive game in Japan.
On February 23, 2006, it was released as part of the Gunstar Heroes: Treasure Box Collection for the PlayStation 2. It is also available on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console.
Plot
American Story: The Gunstar Dynasty has been the protector of the planet Gunstar 9 (G-9) for generations. In his youth, Dr. Brown defeated Golden Silver, a destructive android that traveled millions of miles to suck G-9 dry of all its resources. Dr. Brown was able to extract the four famous Mystical Gems, the robot's power source, and imprisoned it on one of G-9's moons.
Years later, a new menace rises. Smash Daisaku, a vicious dictator found out that the Gunstars knew the location of the Mystical Gems. One day, Smash Daisaku kidnapped the Gunstar twins' older brother Green and used a mind control machine to make Green obey his orders.
With Green's help, Smash Daisaku amassed all four Mystical Gems, has turned Gunstar 9's peaceful worker droids into deadly menaces, and is now preparing to leave for Gunstar 9's moon to reactivate Golden Silver.
Note: The Japanese story below - which takes place on Earth - is considered the proper storyline that sets up the sequel, Gunstar Super Heroes.
The world was nearing its end. An evil organization created the ultimate weapon, Golden Silver, the God of Ruin, to destroy countless cities on Earth from the moon. The Gunstars (Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow) seeing the Earth turn into a living hell before them and fueled by anger, had a showdown with the powerful Golden Silver. At length, after an arduous battle, they defeated the evil God of Ruin. To make sure he was never resurrected, they sealed his body on the moon and took the 4 gems that powered him, and sealed them away in separate places on Earth. The Gunstars, having been pushed to their limits, prayed for a new civilization to arrive, and they began their long sleep. All that is, except for one... Time passed, and a new civilization was built on Earth. A legend was spread across the land. "Revive the God that sleeps on the moon, and he will guide the most righteous people to Utopia." Grey, the commander of the dictatorship calling themselves "Empire", believed in this legend and attempted to carry it out. So he sent people to the moon in a battleship called the "Ark", in order to mine for the 4 gems that would call the God forth. It was then that the leader of the underground mining excursion, Professor Brown, uncovered some capsules, in which the Gunstars were having their long sleep. Once they awakened, they learned of the Empire's plan to revive Golden Silver. Their companion, Green, whom they had remembered being with them until the very last moment, had lost his previous memories and was assisting the Empire in the revival of the God of Ruin. "We won't let such a tragedy happen again! We'll get back the gems and put a stop to the revival of Golden Silver!" Once Professor Brown heard the Gunstar's words, he decided to betray the Empire and promised to help the Gunstars in their battle.
Gameplay
Gunstar Heroes is a side scrolling shooter. The player has four weapons to choose from, and they can be combined in various pairs to create a total of 14 unique weapons. In addition to the weapons, the player can engage enemies in close quarters combat. It is possible to grab and toss enemies, perform sliding and jumping attacks and a long-range skid.
Unlike most games in the genre, the player has a life total calculated in numbers. Therefore, death to a player requires multiple hits but just one death will issue the option to continue or to end the game.
The main highlight of the game are its boss encounters, which often feature large enemies made up of multiple sprites allowing for fluid movement.
